TMC Turmoil: Ritabrata Asserts Backing of 58 MLAs Amid Party Shake-Up
Ritabrata Banerjee, the expelled leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claims to have the support of 58 MLAs, a significant number that could challenge the party's current leadership. With at least two of these signatories recently suspended, questions arise about how Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will respond to this emerging faction. Should this group solidify, it could surpass the two-thirds threshold mandated by anti-defection laws, paving the way for a potential split reminiscent of the political realignments seen in Maharashtra.
In a separate but related move, the TMC announced the dissolution of all its committees and frontal organizations in West Bengal on Wednesday. This decision marks a strategic overhaul aimed at revitalizing the party's structure. A statement released on X read,
“After careful consideration, it has been decided that all committees of the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, as well as all its frontal organisations, shall stand dissolved with immediate effect.”
The party further elaborated on its intentions, stating that a thorough introspection and performance review process will take place across all levels before reconstituting its framework.
“Based on the findings of this exercise, the organisational structure of the parent body and all frontal organisations will be reconstituted and announced in due course,”it added. The TMC emphasized its commitment to fortifying its organization to confront future challenges with renewed strength and purpose.
