Telangana Congress Leader and Father Arrested in Murder of Waqf Board Lawyer
Hyderabad's Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar revealed the results of a week-long inquiry into the murder of Waqf Board advocate Moizuddin, linking the crime to a meticulously planned conspiracy orchestrated by Telangana Congress leader Mujahid Alam Khan and his father. The police have identified Mujahid as the primary conspirator, with his father implicated for helping him avoid capture following the assassination. Both face serious charges, including murder and criminal conspiracy, under the relevant legal provisions.
Alongside the father-son duo, authorities have detained five additional suspects for their roles in the crime. Commissioner Sajjanar elaborated on the investigation, stating that the plot was laid out over several months, with reconnaissance activities beginning as early as January. The motive appears rooted in longstanding property and financial disputes, particularly concerning Mujahid's medical college in Malakpet and commercial properties in Lakdi-ka-Pul.
During the investigation, police confiscated Rs 10 lakh in cash, various mobile devices, and the Mahindra Scorpio used in the crime. Sajjanar detailed how the murder was executed with the help of intermediaries, leading to multiple arrests as the investigation unraveled. “The accused plotted to eliminate the advocate for a contract sum of Rs 15 lakh,” he stated, highlighting the complexity of the criminal operation.
Both Mujahid and his father hail from a prominent family in Hyderabad, known for their historical ties to the region's nobility and their ownership of significant businesses, including the celebrated Hyderabad Deccan Cigarette Factory. Mujahid also chairs the Golconda Educational Academy, overseeing several educational institutions in Hyderabad. Furthermore, he is closely related to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, with the families having a fraught history of land disputes spanning nearly twenty years.
In light of these developments, Congress officials have confirmed that Mujahid is set to be expelled from the party as the situation unfolds.
