Sebi board meeting: Open market buyback is back and intraday borrowing for MFs; 5 key decisions investors should know

Sebi Unveils Major Reforms to Boost Market Dynamics

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has taken significant steps to enhance market efficiency and safeguard investor interests. Among the notable reforms is the reintroduction of exchange-based buybacks, allowing companies to repurchase their shares more flexibly.

Additionally, mutual funds will now have the option of intraday borrowing, providing them with greater liquidity and operational agility. Sebi is also expediting the launch process for Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), making it easier for new investment avenues to enter the market.

Other key decisions include streamlining fundraising through municipal bonds and simplifying the process for transferring securities to legal heirs, ultimately aiming to create a more investor-friendly environment.
