Ritabrata Says Rebel Group’S Bid For TMC Legislature Party Status Got Speaker Nod, Seeks Mamata’S Guidance

Ritabrata Banerjee Claims Support from Majority of TMC MLAs

Following a meeting with the Speaker, Ritabrata Banerjee addressed the media in the Assembly, announcing that his faction had successfully submitted the signatures of 58 legislators who were elected under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) banner. He declared that the Speaker has acknowledged their claim, asserting that his group now commands a clear majority within the party.

Banerjee emphasized,

“The TMC legislative party is a team of 58 MLAs who won on the TMC symbol,”

and mentioned that two additional MLAs currently out of state have also pledged their support. He hinted that once these legislators formally join, their numbers will increase further.

The Speaker's acceptance of the new legislative party structure has led to the opening of the office designated for the Leader of the Opposition for Banerjee. He introduced a new leadership lineup, appointing Akhruzzaman as chief whip, with veteran members Javed Ahmed Khan, Sandeepan Saha, Sabina Yasmin, and Shiuli Saha taking on deputy leadership roles.

“The letters communicating these appointments have already been submitted to the Speaker,”

he stated.

In a notable appeal, Ritabrata Banerjee called on TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to step in as a guiding force for the legislature party amid the ongoing internal strife.

“We would request Mamata Banerjee to play the role of the chief adviser of the legislative party,”

he urged, while simultaneously indicating a distancing from TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata's nephew. This situation continues to unfold as the dissident camp seeks to consolidate its position.
