My absence is not silence. Though I am away, I am with people of Bangladesh: Sheikh Hasina

Sheikh Hasina: My Voice Persists Amidst Absence

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the visionary behind Bangladesh's independence, not only rallied the nation toward freedom but also bestowed it with its identity. His assassination on August 15, 1975, was not just a personal tragedy; it was an attack on the essence of Bangladesh's independence and democracy. Since then, the Awami League has faced relentless challenges, from military coups to historical distortions, yet it has remained steadfast in its commitment to the people.

Under the Awami League's stewardship, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable milestones, such as food self-sufficiency, widespread electrification, and significant infrastructure advancements. Initiatives like the Padma Bridge and Digital Bangladesh exemplify the nation's progress. The Awami League has not only built a safer Bangladesh but has also cultivated a dignified presence on the world stage.

However, the current political landscape is fraught with turmoil. The recent elections, marred by manipulation and exclusion of the Awami League, represent a grave threat to the democratic rights of the populace.

“This is not just an attack on the Awami League; it is an attack on the voting, political, and constitutional rights of the people of Bangladesh,”
Hasina stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation as the party faces illegal restrictions and a wave of state repression.

She firmly asserts that honoring Rahman's legacy and advocating for democracy should never be criminalized. The ongoing political climate, marked by false accusations and state-sanctioned intimidation, cannot extinguish the spirit of the Awami League, which remains deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

As Bangladesh confronts a pivotal moment in its history, the choice lies between the values of liberation and the descent into darkness. The Awami League's resilience is a testament to its enduring connection with the people, and Hasina is resolute in her belief that the struggle for democracy will prevail.

“I do not do politics for power. I do politics for the people of Bangladesh,”
she affirmed, reiterating her dedication to the cause.

Looking ahead, Hasina calls for unity among all progressive forces in Bangladesh. She advocates for a rejection of fear and division to combat the forces of extremism and misinformation. On this anniversary of the Awami League, she honors the sacrifices of those who fought for democracy and pledges that their struggles will not be in vain.

“The struggle of the Awami League will not cease. Democracy in Bangladesh will be restored,”
she promised, envisioning a renewed commitment to the principles of the liberation war and the dream of a prosperous “Sonar Bangla.”
