It’S Not Political, It’S Just Personal—Supriya Sule’S Daughter Marrying BJP Leader’S Son Isn’T An Aberration

It’s not political, it’s just personal—Supriya Sule’s daughter marrying BJP leader’s son isn’t an aberration Contradiction or not, the episode highlights a reality that has long existed in India’s politics: political rivalries do not always translate into personal ones. Despite fierce battles in public, politicians and their families have often maintained relationships across party lines. Political analyst and professor Chandrachud Singh said these alliances are entirely in the spirit of democracy. “Democracy is about choices, not conformity. We cannot expect every person in a family to subscribe to the same political ideology. In a society that values individual autonomy and agency, there is nothing unusual about family members, including spouses, belonging to different political parties,” he told ThePrint. Adding, “Political diversity within families is not a problem—it is a reflection of the freedom that democracy seeks to protect.” ThePrint looks at other instances where political affiliations did not come in the way of matrimonial alliances.
