Weather Jiu-Jitsu: A New Strategy to Combat Extreme Weather
Researchers from Arizona State University, led by Qin Huang, have introduced a groundbreaking concept to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events. In their recently published perspective paper in PLOS Water, they advocate for a method termed Weather Jiu-Jitsu, which aims to redirect detrimental weather patterns away from areas vulnerable to severe damage.
The innovative approach relies on theoretical frameworks that suggest it’s possible to "nudge" weather systems, steering them towards less harmful trajectories. By harnessing this technique, the authors believe we can significantly reduce the destruction often caused by natural disasters.
