Opposition Alliance Demands Education Minister's Resignation Amid Exam Controversies
The opposition coalition, known as the INDIA bloc, has united in calling for the resignation of the Education Minister, citing his failure to protect the interests of countless students who participated in NEET and CBSE exams. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized this collective stance, stating that the bloc's action plan will prioritize youth issues, institutional integrity, and maintaining a robust opposition front.
During a recent meeting, Kharge outlined a schedule for the bloc to convene every two months to assess the political landscape and strategize collaboratively. The next significant gathering is set for August 8, with additional dates to be determined regularly. As the Monsoon Session of Parliament approaches, the bloc is ramping up its legislative tactics, holding regular strategy sessions at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.
Kharge urged the Union government to convene an all-party meeting to address critical issues such as the economic downturn, rising unemployment, inflation, and agricultural concerns. He reiterated the importance of ongoing coordination among the parties, stating,
“The Parliament coordination will continue during the monsoon session with daily morning meetings in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.”
In a show of solidarity, leaders like Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren joined the meeting virtually, echoing the bloc's concerns. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav emphasized the need for unity, particularly with an eye on the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections, asserting that
“Bandhu raj (brotherhood) must be formed, and this will be our effort.”Meanwhile, NCP MP Supriya Sule pointed out the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
In contrast, Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, dismissed the INDIA bloc's efforts, claiming that they lack public support. He stated,
“They have lost all public support. It is now evident that this is merely a gathering of power-hungry individuals vying for office.”
