Siddaramaiah Resigns as Karnataka CM, Declines Rajya Sabha Offer
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gathered his ministers for a farewell breakfast, signaling a moment of gratitude before officially stepping down. Home Affairs Minister G. Parameshwara revealed this meeting took place shortly before Siddaramaiah's resignation, emphasizing the veteran leader's commitment to state politics. "I have repeatedly stated that I would resign when the high command instructed me to do so," Siddaramaiah confirmed during a press conference.
He expressed his gratitude to prominent party figures like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, while firmly rejecting an offer to join the Rajya Sabha.
“I want to remain in state politics and I am not interested in national politics,"he asserted. With two years remaining in his term as an MLA, Siddaramaiah reiterated his intention to continue serving the people of Karnataka.
As he prepared to leave office, he stated,
“Whoever the high command and the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) chooses will be the CM."His commitment to fighting against communal forces remained resolute, highlighting the importance of the Constitution in his life and career. Images from the breakfast meeting depicted a heartfelt moment between Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar, suggesting a smooth transition of leadership.
While Siddaramaiah's resignation is confirmed, speculation about Shivakumar's succession continues. Although Congress leaders indicated that Shivakumar is likely to take over, an official announcement has yet to be made, leaving some uncertainty in the air.
