Bihar Encounter Controversy Deepens as Criticism Mounts Against CM Choudhary
The recent killing of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a vocal advocate for local issues in Bhojpur, has ignited fierce criticism directed at Bihar's Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Prominent political figure Prashant Kishor questioned the integrity of the police actions, stating,
“A police officer cannot fire without orders from Patna, therefore, an investigation should find out who gave the order to open fire.”He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the Home Department's role in the incident, particularly concerning the Special Task Force (STF) officer who allegedly authorized the shooting.
Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village, was killed on June 17, sparking outrage not only from the public but also from within the ruling BJP. Various party leaders, including Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari and senior figure Ashwani Choubey, have voiced their concerns over the handling of the situation, putting further pressure on Choudhary.
Kishor, who has a history of criticizing Choudhary, visited Tiwari’s village following the incident. He called for a judicial inquiry to uncover the truth behind the killing, asserting,
“We demand that the investigation include everyone involved.”He warned that if justice isn't served, protests would erupt outside Choudhary’s residence within 15 days.
An FIR has already been lodged against several police officers based on Tiwari's mother’s complaint. After meeting with Tiwari’s family, Kishor reiterated their demand for justice, stating,
“The family does not want money or jobs; they want justice.”He criticized narratives suggesting Tiwari was mentally unstable, arguing that systemic failures had pushed him to desperation.
Kishor went on to challenge Choudhary’s leadership, asserting,
“Policing is not about shooting.”He underscored the police’s duty to protect, not harm, and condemned the leadership’s insensitivity amidst the turmoil. With the ruling party facing internal dissent, the Jan Suraaj Party has ramped up its protests, calling for accountability in the wake of a police narrative that has shifted inconsistently following Tiwari's death.
