Sukhendu’S Exit Deepens TMC Unrest, Rebel Leader Ritabrata Claims More Mps Set To Break Ranks

Sukhendu’s exit deepens TMC unrest, rebel leader Ritabrata claims more MPs set to break ranks

Political Turmoil Deepens as TMC Faces Potential Exodus

As political activity heats up in New Delhi, tensions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) are becoming increasingly apparent. While TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and other senior figures were engaged in discussions with the INDIA bloc, reports emerged of a gathering of approximately a dozen dissenting TMC MPs at the residence of BJP Union minister Bhupender Yadav. This meeting, attended by rebel leader Ritabrata Ray, signals a potential shift in the party’s dynamics that could extend beyond state borders.

In the midst of this upheaval, Ray suggested that the recent resignation of Sukhendu Shekhar Ray might just be the beginning of a broader political fracture.

“Ray is a senior leader, and his resignation marks the unity of will among us and a significant section of party leaders who are outside the state Assembly,”
Ray stated, emphasizing the increasing distance between Kolkata and Delhi, which he believes could lead to more TMC MPs voicing their discontent.

Although Banerjee claimed he had not communicated with Ray prior to his resignation, he expressed solidarity with the concerns raised regarding the party's internal issues. He highlighted a pervasive culture of favoritism that has left many feeling sidelined.

“I sat in the last bench in the Parliament for 15 months and witnessed junior leaders and RTI activists being awarded front seats,”
Banerjee remarked, reflecting on the disillusionment felt within the ranks.

Ray further criticized the leadership in the Rajya Sabha, indirectly targeting TMC's Derek O'Brien. He suggested that the allocation of seats for MPs should not be influenced by distractions, alluding to O’Brien's quizmaster background and his involvement with the Diamond Harbour Football Club.

“Such buffoonery may be permitted in quiz contests and elsewhere,”
he said, alluding to the serious business of parliamentary proceedings.

With Ray's departure and the looming threat of additional defections, the TMC finds itself at a crucial juncture. The internal discord could not only weaken its legislative power in West Bengal but also impact its overall standing in Parliament, setting the stage for a potentially transformative political landscape.
