‘Did not want to be in 2 boats’—Sushmita Dev quits TMC, resigns from Rajya Sabha

Sushmita Dev Exits TMC and Rajya Sabha, Plans Future Moves

Sushmita Dev has officially stepped away from the Trinamool Congress, resigning from her role in the Rajya Sabha as well. When questioned about her next political steps, she expressed a desire to continue serving the public, promising to reveal her plans in due time.

“I hope I will get a chance to do politics and be a representative of the people in the future,”
she stated, while opting not to comment on her former leader, Mamata Banerjee.

Dev cited complex reasons for her departure from the party, emphasizing that full disclosure wasn't necessary.

“What prompted me to take this decision is a very long story. In politics, I don’t think everything needs to be revealed,”
she explained. She underscored her discomfort with dual allegiances, remarking,
“I did not want to be in a situation where I was in two boats. That is not the right way to do politics,”
highlighting her commitment to clarity and loyalty.

The former parliamentarian also articulated that her resignation from the Rajya Sabha was principled, given that her seat was a TMC nomination.

“This morning, I resigned as a member of the All India Trinamool Congress. The Rajya Sabha seat was also given to me by the party, so if I have left the party, I should also leave the Rajya Sabha seat,”
she declared. Dev plans to visit Assam soon to reconnect with her family, stating,
“Tomorrow I am going to Assam to meet my sisters and mother.”
