Congress Targets Modi's Policies Amid Growing Discontent
During a recent gathering, Congress leaders deliberated on the contentious rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan's candidacy for the Rajya Sabha election in Madhya Pradesh. According to insider sources, party members from the state have been summoned to Delhi to strategize a protest and other responses. The Congress party has labeled the rejection as a politically charged maneuver, vowing to consider all legal and political avenues to contest the decision.
In addition, the Congress leadership has outlined plans for a sweeping national campaign aimed at addressing a variety of pressing issues that resonate with the electorate. Sources suggest that the meeting primarily focused on organizational strengthening in preparation for upcoming elections, although discussions regarding electoral strategies will occur in separate sessions. K.C. Venugopal, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, emphasized the need for grassroots mobilization, stating,
“To take the message of the Modi regime’s misrule to the people, we will launch the nationwide campaign. From the block level to Parliament, we will mobilise all affected cohorts and send a strong message that we are with the ordinary people—while the Modi-led BJP is with the rich and powerful.”
Highlighting the struggles faced by the youth, Venugopal pointed out the detrimental impact of recurring job insecurities and economic challenges. He noted that families are grappling with financial strains as the economy falters, particularly affecting SC, ST, and OBC communities, who are facing increasing marginalization. In a related critique, Jairam Ramesh accused the BJP of pursuing delimitation despite lacking the necessary two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. He remarked,
“Their ego was hurt after the Bill on delimitation was defeated in the House. That is why they are doing all this – getting MPs from other parties. Whatever the Home Minister may do, the BJP will not get a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha for getting the Delimitation Bill passed.”
Rahul Gandhi asserted the Congress's unique capability to challenge both the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, projecting confidence in the party's resilience against attempts to fracture it. He anticipates an upswing in the party's strength in the years to come. Additionally, Ramesh dismissed rumors regarding a potential merger with the Trinamool Congress following recent high-profile meetings involving party leaders from both sides.
